This week is ELA Smarter Balance Testing. This is happening during regular class time, and will take, at the minimum, all week. There will be an expectation for some reading at home so that we can keep up with our curriculum.
**As of Tuesday, no extra reading at home right now. Please see below for our writing prompt.
We finished character presentations today, and started reading Chapter 4. Please finish reading Chapter 4 over the weekend, and be ready for a quiz on Monday. SBA testing begins on Monday. Please see below for our writing prompt.
Took a quick quiz on Chapter 3. Today we did our Lord of the Flies character "paper dolls" presentations. Didn't get to finish, so we will wrap up tomorrow. Please see below for our writing prompt.
Some announcements/reminders: **Turn in your rubrics for the Julius Caesar essay. You need to score yourself. I will not grade your essay without this. **Homework tonight: Read chapter 3 in LOTF. It should take a total of 22 minutes, according to the Mr. Ramsey videos. No excuses. There will be a quiz tomorrow. **Smarter Balance testing is happening during our class-time every day next week. You will be expected to be reading at home during testing week. Work time today on the group "paper doll" project. Be ready to present tomorrow. Please see below for our writing prompt.
Today we finished reading Chapter 2. We then broke into groups in order to discuss the different characters and work on this Character ":Paper Doll" Poster. We didn't have long, so we will have time to finish and present tomorrow. Remember, you need to rate yourself on your rubric and turn it in. Please see below for our writing prompt.
We received a rubric to self-evaluate our JC essays on--due tomorrow. I will not grade your essay without it. We got back our JC One-Pagers. We finished reading Chapter 1 of Lord of the Flies (listened along with Mr. Ramsey's video audio-book--links on the new pull-down menu), and started Chapter 2. Please see below for our writing prompt.
Today we turned in all of the daily writes we've been doing...like, four weeks worth! We continued chapter one of Flies. We read along with the same teacher-made video. Remember, your Julius Caesar essay is due online at 11:59pm on Sunday. CLICK HERE FOR TODAY'S AUDIO PROMPT. Please see below for our writing prompt.
Today we watched several videos for background info/context on Lord of the Flies, as well as a preview of plot and typical analysis. Watchmojo.com: Top 10 Notes Lord of the Flies Thug Notes: Lord of the Flies We then began reading Chapter One of the novel, The Sound of the Shell. We actually read along with a video of a teacher reading the novel aloud for his students. It actually includes commentary and insights into the book. We had just enough time to watch the first video, or the first 15 minutes of the book. CLICK HERE FOR AUDIO. The music ends after 7 minutes. Please continue to write for an additional three minutes. Please see below for our writing prompt. This is also an audio prompt! There are actually two videos played in class.
Today we reviewed the responses/stats from the survival survey yesterday. This included some fancy pie-charts! We discussed the implications of our responses in the "real world" as well as what it might mean for us as readers of the novel Lord of the Flies. We also got back into our survival groups and compiled a master list of survival "stuff" on the board. This led to a discussion about what might be happening in the novel, and what would really happen to us if we were stranded on a desert island. CLICK HERE FOR AUDIO FOR ASTEROID FIELD.
