Did VOCAB VOCAB VOCAB! And maybe talked about our feelings a little bit. Today we... Took our third vocabulary quiz. We did not have time to began our fourth set of new words. Mrs. Hopkins thinks we will be doing these together in class a few per day. Homework over the weekend: None!
Today we... Finished reading "Sinner in the Hands of an Angry God" if need be. Then we worked on an in-class assignment: "Sinners" Mini Response Project. The project asks us to consider some questions after reading the sermon, and then we have two options for our response: 1) We can write a response directly to Edwards, or, 2) We can draw a picture of Edwards' vision of hell (answer questions along with this). Due at the end of class. Assignment can be found below. Homework: Study for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow!

May have been slightly more interested in joining Speech & Debate after Mrs. Hopkins showed us the MOST AMAZING VIDEO of all time about the National Tournament. Unfortunately, she downloaded the video a long time ago, and it won't upload to this website, and it no longer exists on YouTube. :'( If you really want to see it again, come to the speech & debate informational meeting after school tomorrow, or ask Mrs. Hopkins to show it again. OR BETTER YET, JOIN SPEECH & DEBATE! We had our very last Puritan Facebook presentation on Jonathan Edwards, famous for his intense sermons. Then Mrs. Hopkins screamed and yelled at us. Wait. That's not right. She did a (partial) dramatic reading of Edwards' most famous sermon, "Sinner in the Hands of an Angry God." Several students volunteered to try their hand at delivering the sermon. We even explored how using different voices and levels of seriousness changes the meaning and engagement with the audience. A link to the text of the sermon can be found below: "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards Today we...

Then, we read Mary Rowlandson's captivity narrative, The Soveraignty and Goodness of God, Together with the Faithfullnes of His Promises Displayed: Being a Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. Please click the following link for an excerpt of the text: A NARRATIVE OF THE CAPTIVITY HOMEWORK: Vocabulary HW #3 due tomorrow. Today we... Please click the following link for the text of the poem: BRADSTREET POEM Homework: Please print out and fill out the following self-reflection on the Puritan Facebook Project. It is due at the beginning of class tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23.
Today we... Took our second vocabulary quiz, and then began our third set of new words. Homework over the weekend: None! Here are the definitions for our new set of words. I don't like not hearing your guesses!
Today we...
Worked diligently on finishing our Puritan Facebook Pages, so we don't have to do them over the weekend. Homework: Study for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow! Today we... Counted off in groups and read biographical pieces on seven different Puritan authors. Found out we would be making (paper) Facebook pages for our assigned authors. Worked on pages for the remainder of the period.
