Today we... Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. Mrs. Hopkins gave a deadline for any missing/make-up work: Friday, April 17, 2015, the Friday we get back from Spring Break. If you have work that you would like to turn in or revise, please see Mrs. Hopkins before doing so. Had an introduction to the TPSFASTT poetry analysis procedure. Document can be found on yesterday's post. Read Walt Whitman's poem "I Hear America Singing" and completed a TPSFASTT sheet (please do this for homework if you are not able to finish it in class. Please look up these key literary/figurative language terms in preparation for Friday:

Today we... Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. Began a new unit on the poetry of Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Got several handouts (see below), and read the biography of Whitman in our textbook (scanned PDF included). We then watched a short video bio of Whitman on Youtube. (While Mrs. Hopkins passed out info on TPSFASTT, we have not yet covered it in class.)

Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. Today we did group presentations on the Dark Romanticism short stories. NO WRITING PROMPT TODAY.
Today we did group presentations on the Dark Romanticism short stories. (4th period interrupted by fire alarm, 5th period late because of fire alarm. We may need to make some adjustments.) CUCKOO ESSAY DUE TODAY. It looks like my sub-plans and updates to this website never went through, so here is a summary of expectations for Thursday and Friday.
Thursday we had a writing prompt (please see below), but Friday we did not. For both days, there was work time for the group project. These need to be completed and ready to present by Monday. ALSO DUE MONDAY: FINAL DRAFT OF CUCKOO ESSAY. It has a "revision" spot on Turnitin.com. This will allow me to see what changes you have made since your first draft. Please find our writing prompt below. Writing time is 10 minutes.
Once writing time is over, please meet with your Dark Romanticism groups. You should compare your story summaries and make sure you all have compiled complete information. Once you have a "master summary," please turn in your individual summaries. If you have written it by hand, please turn it in to the class box by the water cooler. If you typed up your summary in Google Docs, please submit it to Turnitin.com under "Poe/Hawthorne Summary." After turning in your summary, begin to plan out with your group your storyboards for your presentation. Refer to your purple handout (there is also a link to this document on yesterday's post), and make sure you are answering all questions before proceeding. You may not get to art supplies time today. However, if you do, please return all supplies to the desk and keep things neat and tidy. You will have time to work together tomorrow as well. Today we...
Wrote! Please see below for our writing prompt. [Note: Your Cuckoo's Nest essay is due on Monday. You will not have any further time in class to work on it. You can already submit it to Turnitin.com if you are ready. It is actually titled "Revision 1", and is listed as assignment 10a right under the Cuckoo draft.] Received our next group project: Dark Romanticism Short Story Presentations. Please click this link for full instructions. Each class has been broken into groups of three (some groups will have four members). Mrs. Hopkins has randomly selected these groups ahead of time. The basic idea is that each group will read one of the following stories, create a storyboard that includes themes, symbols, and motifs, and then present the storyboard to class. Again, please see the document link above for full instructions. Your group will only be reading one story. Groups and chosen stories can be found below. Here are the links directly to the stories:
