Wrote (for an entire ten minutes!). Please see our writing prompt below. Answered the following questions under the heading "Huck Day #3":
We then did a "Vote With Your Feet" activity, where each corner of the room represented a different position: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree. We used the questions/statements that we wrote about yesterday:
Mrs. Hopkins is still absent today.
Please find all instructions for today here on the website. Please begin class with our daily writing. Our prompt is below. Once again, you will only be writing for SIX MINUTES today. Here is a link to the handy online timer Mrs. Hopkins uses: http://www.online-stopwatch.com/countdown-timer/ After writing time is over, please quickly grab chromebooks In your “Huck Finn” document, create a heading for “Huck Day #2.” You will have fifteen minutes to complete this activity.
Next, you will watch a MiniBio on Mark Twain, which can be found here (pay special attention to the claim that Twain was the first person to capture “the vernacular” and put it in American writing): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuQMBWjmlHk When the bio video is over, please grab a copy of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the white crate by the door, and quietly read Chapters 1-3. We only have enough books for a class set right now, so please return them at the end of the period. Take notes as you read relating to Huck as a narrator and the portrayal of Jim. If you are unable to finish reading the three chapters in class, please access the full-audio with read-along text on the Huck Finn sub menu: http://www.loudlit.org/audio/hfinn/pages/01_01_hfinn.htm Mrs. Hopkins is absent today. Keely is sick. Oh no!
Please find all instructions for today here on the website. Please begin class with our daily writing. Our prompt is below. You will only be writing for SIX MINUTES today. Here is a link to the handy online timer Mrs. Hopkins uses: http://www.online-stopwatch.com/countdown-timer/ After writing time is over, please quickly grab chromebooks, and get out your handwritten responses to the three questions you were asked to address on Friday (you needed a two-chunk response to each):
Quickly conference with a partner for five to ten minutes. Share your answers, discuss your different perspectives, and see how your responses may be able to be improved. Now, turn your handwritten responses into a six-chunk quick-essay on censorship. If you did your homework over the weekend, you should only need to write an introduction (plus a rockin’ thesis statement), polish up the chunks you already wrote (please have a separate paragraph for each question), and a conclusion. Use your class time today to write this essay, and submit online by 11:59pm. Focus on utilizing transitions between ideas and paragraphs, as well as using effective contextual lead-ins for your CDs. Today we...
Wrote. (Yes, for ten minutes this time!) Our writing prompt is below. Then Mrs. Hopkins read (most of) this article aloud ("Does Censorship Matter?"). We took notes while she read. We have a writing assignment over the weekend on the article and our thoughts on the matter. Write a two-chunk response for each question. These need to be hand-written--you will not be submitting this online.
Today we...

We created a new document in Google Drive titled "Huck Finn." Then, under the heading of "Huck Day #1" we answered the following questions:
We shared out some of our answers, and discussed different perspectives, transitioning into examining the controversial existence and use of "the n-word." We watched the CBS/60 Minutes video on the novel and the word, as well as a satire video (please see links to videos above). Today we...
