Learning Target: I can identify, harvest and embed important concrete detail.
Learning Target: I can analyze literature and create a visual representation. Today Mrs. Hopkins is absent, but that's okay, you already know what to do: continue work on your One-Pagers! These are due Monday.

Learning Target: I can analyze literature and create a visual representation. As we are at the end of our short unit on short fiction, it is time to wrap things up. And, hey! You get to do another One-Pager! Your One-Pager (click the link for instructions/rubric) must be based off of the characters and adjectives we covered yesterday. Each of you selected a one of the two characters, and no one was supposed to have chosen the same personality trait. The One-Pager must include the following statement: Rainsford/General Zaroff is adjective .
One-Pagers are due Monday. Today each table group created a Top Ten Adjectives list for both Rainsford and Zaroff. We compiled these lists as a class on the board, and were astounded at the variety and depth of the words chosen. We discussed the importance of word choice and how each of the adjectives could represent an entire essay. We then continued to watch the film.
Today we finished reading "The Most Dangerous Game." Talk about an adventure story!
Then we began watching the short (by our standards) 1932 film adaptation. While watching, you took notes on the characters of Rainsford and Zaroff, as well as anything you noticed that was different from the story. Today you turned in your "Interlopers" One-Pager, and got back the one you did for "The Gift of the Magi."
We started reading "The Most Dangerous Game." This will take two class periods to finish. Learning Target: I can interpret literature and create a visual representation.
Today you had work time on your "Interlopers" One-Pager. Due Monday at the beginning of class. Learning Target: I can identify, harvest and embed important concrete detail.
Today you got back your scores for the Life Soundtrack assignment. Your final score was determined by the average of the three scores you earned on your individual chunks. Remember this assignment was essentially a pre-assessment, and serves as a baseline for your CD-embedding skills. We quickly reviewed “The Interlopers” and then, yay! You get to do another One-Pager! Your One-Pager (click the link for instructions/rubric) must include the following statement: This story is adjective .
Today was the Welcome Back assembly, and so this messed with our schedules a little bit. Basically, in the short time we had, we read "The Interlopers." Be prepared to work with this story tomorrow.
Today the class compiled feedback for the group-created Magi chunks.
Gave feedback out-loud. Revised chunks per feedback. Today you shared your One-Pagers in pairs, then with your tables, then shared out with the rest of the class.
You turned in your One-Pagers. Mrs. Hopkins presented "TLQ" and transition words as a way of reinforcing the embedding structure you are already familiar with. You received a hard copy (on pink paper) of the CD embedding scale. Then you got back into your table groups and started compiling your feedback for the CDs of the other table groups. |
