AF is an allegorical satire that was inspired by historical events. However, the thematic topics that run throughout the story are extremely relevant to any society and time period. Be looking for CDs that relate to the following concepts:
Task #2 - AF Chapters Quiz (if you didn't take it yesterday)- The goal is to demonstrate that you have done the reading. Move quickly through the questions. Theme- the author’s insightful idea or opinion about a life lesson Satire - the use of humor, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize the behavior of humans...basically, a work that makes fun of our stupidity and flaws. Allegory - a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted on several levels to reveal a hidden meaning that provides some advice, a solution or a call to action. Task 1: Read these articles and complete the following: -Write the theme along with a strong embedded CD from each article that helps prove that you understand each author’s purpose. Task 2: Use this website and choose three satirical paintings that you find interesting. Apply your understanding of satire and identify the theme of each of your chosen paintings. Task 3: Pick one of your paintings that has the most relevant theme and find another painting from the list that also touches on the same issue. Write a 2 CD (NOT quotes but details from the paintings) paragraph that explains the theme and why this human flaw is dangerous to society. Work to turn in by the end of class TOMORROW: Create a Google doc that contains all your work and make sure you put it in your LA folder. Your Skills Progression will be graded on a number of factors. The first is overall completion and thoroughness. The second is based on the scale score you earned in the categories of CD, TS, Thesis, Theme, and Characterization (worth 10 points each).
