Got our reading schedule for the remainder of All Quiet on the Western Front, as well as chunk questions and due dates. Everything is posted on the All Quiet page. Biggest news is finishing the novel over break. Discussed "why" do we read this novel at all? What is the purpose beyond an examination of theme and symbolism (our main focuses for this unit)? We examined two of the main symbols in the text: poplars and earth. Mrs. Hopkins also suggested trying to picture symbols on the page as high contrast colors against a black and white background--that way they are more obvious to us, even when mentioned in what seems to be the foreground. HOMEWORK: Finish reading Chapter 7.

This will be a synthesis essay, incorporating information taken from four different sources the school district is providing. Below please find the PDF. You do not need to print this out, as you will have online access during all of your writing time. HOMEWORK: Please read all four of the articles contained in the PDF, and come ready to do pre-writing tomorrow in class.
