REMINDER: TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO TURN IN ANYTHING TO MRS. HOPKINS. IF YOU HAVE NOT SPOKEN TO HER AT ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, SHE WILL NOT ACCEPT YOUR WORK Today we began reading Act III, Scene 2, where Brutus and Antony give speeches at Caesar's funeral. We did not turn in the purple handout from yesterday. Instead, we received a new, hot pink handout (please see document below). We focused again on rhetoric and the way Brutus and Antony use language and different types of appeals to sway the crowd. We will finish this scene tomorrow.

Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. We finished reading Act III, Scene 1, wherein, after Caesar's assassination, Antony tries to convince Brutus he is not a threat and should be allowed to speak at Caesar's funeral. We focused in particular on each character's use of rhetoric. Purple handout due tomorrow. Today we... Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. We discussed Caesar and what words we would use to describe the way he has been depicted so far. Why does this even matter? Because he's going to be assassinated today! We also discussed the difference between murder and assassination. Can Caesar's death only be referred to as one of these...or both? We began to read Act III, scene 1 (the assassination scene), but with all of the discussion, we only got about 6 and a half minutes in. We will conclude the scene tomorrow.

Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. REMINDER: Last day to turn in any late/missing/revision work is THIS FRIDAY, April 17. Please see Mrs. Hopkins if you have anything you would like to turn in. She will not accept any work unless you have had a conversation with her about what you want to do. Grading: You will have two grades for the capital punishment essay: one that is an average of your self-evaluation and your peer's evaluation of you (this will go into the practice category), and your official grade from Mrs. Hopkins based on our proficiency scale for the unit. YOU MUST TURN IN THE YELLOW SHEET WITH THE PROFICIENCY SCALE with your self-evaluation of your capital punishment essay AS WELL AS the Selma/President Obama paragraph. This is due tomorrow at the beginning of class. You will not receive a grade on these assessments until you have turned this in. Please see Mrs. Hopkins with any questions/concerns/clarifications. We did a quick summary of what has happened so far in Julius Caesar, since it's been a week since we've read/discussed anything related to the play. We received a new handout (pink), had a short synopsis of the final action of Act II, and then read/listened to Act II, scenes 2-4. Please finish the pink sheet for homework. Today we...
Wrote. But only for five minutes (half of what we normally do). Please see below for the prompt. We then took an Act I Quiz (very short, multiple choice). Mrs. Hopkins passed back lots of our work. In first period, we finished listening to Act II Scene i, and completed the handout on Brutus, which was then turned in at the end of class. In second period, we finished the handout and turned it in. Oh, yeah, and Mrs. Hopkins' daughter Keely was here today. NOTE: NO HOMEWORK OVER BREAK! Unless you have work that you need to be finishing and have talked with Mrs. Hopkins about it. Today we... Wrote. Please see our writing prompt below. Reviewed "The Conspiracy Builds" handout, scored it, and turned it in. Received a new handout ("Focus on Brutus/Meet Marcus Brutus") on blue paper. Had a brief synopsis of Act II, scene 1, and began reading/listening to the scene. We will continue with the scene tomorrow. HOMEWORK: Study for Act I Quiz tomorrow. This is an incredibly short, objective test (multiple choice). You will not need your handouts to study, simply do a quick review of the text (don't forget you can find it here under the "Julius Caesar" tab).
Today we... Wrote. Please see below for our writing prompt. Mrs. Hopkins gave a deadline for any missing/make-up work: Friday, April 17, 2015, the Friday we get back from Spring Break. If you have work that you would like to turn in or revise, please see Mrs. Hopkins before doing so. Reviewed the coin worksheet, looked at Caesar and Brutus' "real life" coins, and turned the worksheets in. Received a new worksheet called "The Conspiracy Builds," which will need to be completed for homework if not finished in class. We had a brief synopsis of Act I, scene 3, and then read/listened to the scene.
